Elementary Education
- Elementary education majors have a two-fold advantage: they graduate with a liberal arts degree and a teaching certificate. Graduates are prepared to teach and work with young persons from nursery age through sixth grade, and those who successfully complete these programs are granted provisional certification enabling them to teach in New York and other states.
- Degree holders go on to become K-6 and preschool teachers, teacher assistants, curriculum writers, and education specialists for nonprofits. The curriculum can also be applied to careers in human services, industrial training, and public relations.
- The program is clinically rich with up-to-date instruction focused on common core standards. The unit is committed to the preparation of caring, critical, and reflective professionals who are academically strong, pedagogically skilled, and responsive to the needs of a diverse society.
- Students have distinctive options for learning, including methods classes taught on-site at local schools and student teaching opportunities in New York City and Australia.
- Candidates receive high-quality instruction from dedicated, passionate faculty who are actively involved in research and have worked as classroom teachers. Professors research and publish their work in peer-reviewed journals and work with students on education-related research projects.
