Anthropology
  • Anthropology alumni have secured employment in fields such as business, law, government, education, international relations, public health, and social/environmental activism. Many program alumni have continued on to graduate studies at colleges such as New York University, University of Chicago, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, University at Albany, and Eastern Carolina University.
  • Anthropology majors can participate in an internship program in museology at the New York State Museum in Albany, which provides training in archaeological curation techniques and museum management. Students have also interned with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Historic Huguenot Street, the American Museum of Natural History, and other organizations.
  • Anthropology students are encouraged to study abroad, particularly in non-Western societies. Recently, students have participated in overseas programs in China, Vietnam, Spain, Ireland, Mexico, and Tanzania.
  • The department sponsors an archeological field school annually, which provides opportunities to participate in excavations at a significant archeological site in the Mid-Hudson region. Students also regularly engage in ethnographic and archaeological field schools in other countries (most recently Peru and Ireland).
  • The anthropology curriculum provides a comprehensive, well-rounded knowledge of the field to students in major and minor programs, and many courses are requirements or electives in other degree programs.
