Campus, Community, and Online Resources

One of the responsibilities of the Office of Veteran and Military Services at SUNY New Paltz is to make our veterans, service members, and their dependents aware of the key resources available to them as they pursue their educational and career goals. Our office maintains a comprehensive listing of resources, but the resources below represent what we feel are the most critical services that you will need and want to access during your academic career. These resources are broken apart into three categories: Campus Services, Community Services, and Helpful Websites.

"New York is home to more than one million men and women who have served in the Armed Services.   • Employment & Training:
    Veterans have Priority of Service at Ulster Works OneStop.  The NYS Department of Labor has a designated Local Veteran Employment Representative available at the OneStop to provide skills assessment and interest surveys, career guidance, job search assistance, and possible skills training for high-demand jobs in the local community.  For more information, visit - See more at: http://ulstercountyny.gov/FAQ/Employment%20&%20Training#sthash.9sQFKB0A.dpuf

 

  • VET2VET Peer Networking for Veterans & Armed Forces Members
    VET2VET Peer Networking is led by veterans, for all veterans & members of the Armed Forces. VET2VET participation is FREE, anonymous and confidential. Each VET2VET gathering provides a place for peers to network with one another in a safe and nonjudgemental environment.   • Soldier On
    Soldier On is a private nonprofit organization committed to ending veteran homelessness. Since 1994, the organization has been providing homeless veterans with transitional housing and supportive services. In 2010, Soldier On opened the first Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community, a permanent housing cooperative that provides formerly homeless veterans with safe, sustainable, affordable housing – transitioning them from homelessness to homeownership. This housing model will be replicated nationally as Soldier On continues to change the end of the story for homeless veterans throughout the country.

  • The Veteran Family Support Alliance (VETFAMSA)
    VETFAMSA is a coalition of mental health providers other health practitioners, educators, members of the VA and Veteran Services Agencies, Active and Retired Military and their families, emergency services, and various other community members. We have pledged to support all men and women of the armed services, and their families and loved ones here in the Hudson Valley. We work to:
    • Raise awareness about the needs of troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
    • Identify needs of local military families as well as existing sources of support.
    • Improve access to services and other support for our veterans and their families.
    • Expand support networks and services for military families.

  • Myhealthevet - My HealtheVet is VA's online personal health record. It was designed for Veterans, active duty Service members, their dependents and caregivers. My HealtheVet helps you partner with your health care team. It provides you opportunities and tools to make informed decisions and manage your health care.
  • U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs
  • VA for Vets – VA for Vets helps Veterans and transitioning Military Service Members find federal or non-profit careers. The VA for Vets Career Center tools provide opportunities to translate military skills, build federal resumes and search and apply for open positions. VA for Vets is the flagship initiative of the Veteran Employment Services Office (VESO)
  • Veterans Guide to Paying for College
  • VONAPP – This link is used when applying for your VA education benefits which can be done in just a few steps.
  • WAVE – Students utilizing Chapter 30, 1606, or 1607 GI BILL® benefits must verify their school attendance no-earlier-than the last day of each month they are enrolled in classes. Failure to do so can delay you from receiving payment. Monthly attendance verification can also be done by utilization of the Verification Phone Number: 1-877-823-2378
