Student & Alumni Resources
The Career Resource Center offers unique resources to current students and alumni of all majors to assist with their career development. Whether you are deciding on a major, applying to graduate school, or searching for an internship or full-time position after graduation, the CRC can help with that.
SUNY New Paltz students are encouraged to actively engage in career planning and thoughtfully choose their majors. Students who are still exploring majors can make an appointment with a Career Specialist to explore potential career paths. The tool below offers suggestions on different career paths you can take within your major and opens up opportunities you may not have thought of before.
Professional references are people who can speak to your capabilities as an employee or a student. References typically share with a potential employer how they know you, how long they have known you, and speak to your strengths and thoughts about you in a professional or academic setting in order to encourage the employer to hire you. It is recommended only to ask people for references that you know will speak positively on your behalf. This could be faculty you have taken a class with, supervisors from jobs or internships, or coworkers who collaborated with you on projects. References do not include family or friends.
Reference information or statements such as "References on Request" should not be included on your resume. Instead, prepare a Reference List in a separate document that includes the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of your references. This document should have the same font, header, and general format as your resume. Be sure to contact your references ahead of time to confirm they are willing to provide a reference for you, and follow up to let them know when specific employers might be contacting them.
