Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Abroad
The Center for International Programs is dedicated to promoting diversity abroad by inspiring and supporting educators, staff, faculty, and students to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in and through global education and exchange. We are committed to ensuring that all students have equitable access to the benefits of global education and can leverage such educational opportunities to thrive in globally diverse academic settings, workplaces, and in their communities. We aim to advance diversity, equity, and inclusive practices and policies that support diversifying the field of international education while promoting a climate of inclusion and belonging for all.
Preparing for considerations involving diversity, equity, and inclusion abroad is an important part of any study abroad journey. Learning about the host country and city of your program, including how different aspects of your identity, background, nationality, and ability might be perceived in another cultural context, is an important first step. Taking the time to learn about social norms, cultural mores, and local practices also will help you navigate how aspects of your identity may be perceived and treated while abroad.
