About the OAA
OAA advisors provide academic advising to New Paltz students* from onboarding through graduation. In addition, students will have a dedicated faculty advisor once they declare their major. OAA advising includes guidance with academic policies and procedures, holistic academic support and educational planning, and informed referrals to campus resources. OAA staff includes a School of Education specialist and degree completion specialist.
Our Mission
The mission of academic advising at SUNY New Paltz is to assist students as they develop meaningful educational plans to help them achieve their academic, career, and life goals. The Office of Academic Advising (OAA) supports this mission by advising SUNY New Paltz undergraduates* who are in the process of selecting majors. The OAA is integrated with the Center for Student Success to provide whole student support and partners with faculty in support of advising efforts.
*Students in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) are advised by EOP staff, located in Haggerty Administration Building, Room 19, at 845-257-3220 or 845-257-3226.
Students in the ACE program are advised by the ACE advisor, located in Resnick Hall, Room 101.
Business students are advised by the Center for Business Advising, located in van den Berg Hall, Room 206, at businessadvising@newpaltz.edu or 845-257-2909.
Education students are advised by Academic Advising, Education Programs, located in Old Main Building, Room 115A, or 845-257-2860.
Take Action
Do stuff...
- register for or drop a class
- withdraw from a class
- declare a major or minor
- use the Semester-by-Semester Excel Planner to create a plan of study
- choose the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) option for a class
- change an S/U grade back to a regular letter grade
- access the transfer course equivalency database
- request an official transcript
- complete the Take Flight process (everything new students need to do to get started)
- confirm enrollment
- apply for graduation
