Admission to the Accelerated 3+4 Joint Degree Optometry Program

This program is only open to entering freshmen and first-year New Paltz students.

First admission consideration is to SUNY New Paltz:

• Applications for the Accelerated 3+4 Joint Degree Optometry program must be received and complete by January 15.
• Must be accepted as a freshman to SUNY New Paltz as a General Freshman Applicant.

Second admission consideration is to the Accelerated 3+4 Joint Degree Optometry Program:

• Minimum high school average of 93 (3.8/4.0) is required.
• Minimum SAT score of 1360 (EBRW & Math) OR a minimum ACT score of 29 is required.
• SAT Math score of at least 700 OR an ACT Math score of at least 30 is required.
• Applicants must submit an essay which describes how they became interested in optometry and what they hope to accomplish in this professional field.
• An interview with a representative of the Office of Student Affairs for the SUNY College of Optometry in New York City is required.
• A secondary application must be completed: Accelerated 3+4 Joint Degree Optometry application

Accepted candidates will be notified by SUNY New Paltz by mail.

Notice to Persons Who Have Prior Felony Convictions
State University of New York Board of Trustees policy prohibits SUNY college and university admission applications from inquiring into an applicant's prior criminal history.  Students who have been previously convicted of a felony are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or meet the licensure requirements for certain professions, including optometry.

Individuals with prior criminal histories are advised to seek advise and guidance from the coordinator of the program regarding the impact of a criminal record on meeting the requirements of the major/professional licensure or certification prior to applying to the program.
