Makerbot Innovation Center

The Innovation Center houses the 3D printing resources for SUNY New Paltz Students, Faculty, and Staff.  Our goal is to give our community access to 3D printing resources for academic and personal use.  If you are printing for commercial purposes, please contact the Hudson Valley Additive Manufacturing Center at HVAMC@newpaltz.edu

Information Needed to Print a File

You need to provide a file in .stl format to be 3D printed. Please submit using the link to the form below.

You will submit a ticket containing your build. Your ticket will then be processed, and you will then receive a payment link in an email. Once payment is submitted, we will start the build. We will email you when the part is completed and ready for you to pick it up.

Your file should adhere to the following:

  • Name the file with your Last Name, your First name and the Date (eg. Smith_James_8-8-24)
  • Is an .stl file
  • Dimensions should be in either mm or inches
  • Will print in less than 8 hours
  • Does not have features less than 1mm (about 0.04 in)
  • Is not a weapon
  • Total size of the build must be smaller than 250 x 210 x 220 mm (9.84 x 8.3 x 8.6 in)

You should check to make sure that your file is manifold, does not have any naked edges, reversed normal or overlapping geometries. Meshmixer is a free program that can check for these problems. Although we check each file before giving you a cost estimate, we are not responsible for failed builds due to these errors.

You should first try slicing your file in the PrusaSlicer(this is a free download from prusa3d.com). Slicing will give you an estimate of the amount of filament used.

We can also print your files in ABS plastic. ABS is a more durable and wear resistant material and will print with a soluble support material.

For additional printing options email MIC@newpaltz.edu.

We reserve the right to reject files.
