Minor in Asian Studies - 18 credits
The Asian Studies minor provides an introduction to the study of Asian languages and culture. To students of Asian descent it also serves to provide a better appreciation of themselves and of their heritage.
Students minoring in Asian Studies must receive no less than C- in any course used to satisfy the minor requirements.
Required courses.....................................................8 credits
One year of language study in either Chinese or Japanese. Students with language proficiency in these or other Asian languages may take 8 credits in other Asian Studies courses.
Content courses on Asia......................................10 credits
One course in the civilization or culture of the country whose language is being studied, and additional courses in Asian Studies to total at least 10 credits. A minimum of 6 credits in upper-division (300/400-level) courses must be completed. Up to 8 transferred credits from study abroad may be applied toward the minor.
Minor in Asian American Studies - 15 credits
The Asian American Studies minor provides students with the opportunity to study Asian American history, culture, and society from the perspective of different disciplines, including literature, sociology, history, cultural geography, and media studies.
Students minoring in Asian American Studies must receive no less than C- in any course used to satisfy the minor requirements.

Select four courses in Asian American literature, culture, history, and society from at least two different disciplines. Students may take an intermediate-level Japanese or Chinese course (JPN/CHI201 or JPN/CHI202) as one of the four elective courses.
