The SUNY New Paltz Office of Field Experiences (OFE) is responsible for securing fieldwork and student teaching placement opportunities for all candidates in Adolescent Education, Early Childhood & Childhood Education, TESOL, Special Education, and Communication Disorders. Teacher candidates must complete a minimum of 100 hours of fieldwork prior to their student teaching semester. Fieldwork hours are generally spread over two semesters and placements are determined by the OFE. Student teaching is a full-time commitment extending for the entire 16 week semester. Student teaching is considered the capstone experience and must be taken in the candidate’s final semester before graduation.
