All University Graduate Assistant Program
Graduate Assistantships are available to students admitted to or enrolled in a graduate program. Criteria for the awarding of an assistantship may include, but are not limited to: grade-point average, experience or training, interest in the field of study, letters of recommendation, and/or personal interview.
The university offers three types of Graduate Assistantships, each with different responsibilities and benefits. Each assistantship offers a stipend and tuition scholarship in exchange for 10 or 20 hours of service. We currently offer:
Teachers of Record (TR) serve as the primary instructor of record for a course.
Teaching Assistants (TA) may assist a faculty member with a course, grading, or tutor.
Graduate Assistants (GA) may assist with research, administrative and/or technical assistance.

Hiring Timeline
- Fill out and sign page 1 of the Graduate Assistantship ARF
- The Hiring Department and Academic Dean will complete the ARF with approvals to send to Graduate Studies.
- Graduate Studies will process the ARF and send out the Fair Chance Form
- Complete the Fair Chance Form and return to the Office of Graduate, Professional & Interdisciplinary Studies
- Graduate Studies will send the ARF and Fair Chance Form to HRDI
- Work with HRDI to complete any remaining paperwork
- HRDI will update information for Payroll
- Expect your first paycheck four weeks after your first day of work

Positions Available
Academic Planning & Learning Innovation
Description: To be successful in this position will require the employee to be a self-starter who can work on assigned projects with little oversight while also working well within a team structure. The ability to learn new processes and/or technologies easily and being open to new ideas is critical. Additional skill sets that will assist a new GA include excellent written and verbal communication, conscientious attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and the ability to research. Website & Technical Support
- Review and flag website errors, including broken links, periodically
- Research and propose ideas for improving/streamlining data management
Project Management
- Create Excel spreadsheets of online courses for the OpenSUNY Database each semester
- Oversee the digitization of graduate curricular documents into SharePoint
- Manage the office bulletin board, including updating materials and information
- Assist with editing the UG and GR online catalogs as needed
Research & Reporting
- Research continuing education and micro-credential programs across campuses nationally
- Draft bi-weekly reports of key metrics for each graduate program
- Provide online research for GPIS Staff
Documentation & Administrative Support
- Document any new or revised procedures for inclusion in the GA SharePoint
- Provide administrative and reception assistance as needed
- Scan and index documents as needed
Communication & Assessment
- The GA will be expected to keep an online daily progress report of accomplishments to be reviewed/shared during GA meetings with the Assistant Dean. These meetings may be conducted in person or online
- The GA will have access to the Assistant Dean via email, Microsoft Teams, or text
- The GA will provide the Assistant Dean with a summary of accomplishments at the end of each term. Evaluation shall be based on the extent to which the Graduate Assistant has met or made progress towards meeting the goals specified in their performance program and progress report

Center for International Programs
Description: To be successful in this position will require the employee to be a self-starter who can work on assigned projects with little oversight while also working well within a team structure. Responsibilities:
Data & Technical Support
- Ability to learn/utilize technology used by the ESL program relevant to an assigned task
- Support ISP social media outreach, including virtual outreach to prospective students. This may involve the use of UniBuddy, etc., as assigned by staff
- Work on special projects online
- Must have online access and equipment such as a computer and phone to be capable of working remotely
Administrative Support
- Be available for airport pickup if needed
- Provide administrative assistance as needed
- Help organize and chaperone student events and trips as needed. Evening and weekend availability when required
- Act as a Student Ambassador
- Answer questions and assist students and visitors when in the office
- Front desk as needed
- Tutor ESL students as well as other students from abroad as needed

Responsibilities:
Administrative Support
- Play a key role in the new international student orientation program in both the fall and spring semesters
- Assist staff in the preparation and implementation of Orientation
- Meet arriving international students at JFK Airport along with CIP staff, assist with their arrival on campus, and help them check in to the residence halls
- Chaperone student trips to off-campus locations including evening and weekend trips when needed
- Promote workshops and activities for international students
- Answer questions and assist students and visitors when in the office
- Provide administrative, phone, and reception assistance
- Help monitor international@newpaltz.edu email account and forward inquiries to appropriate staff members
- Be available to deliver and pick up documents from CIP, Mailroom, and other offices

Description: The graduate assistant plays an important role in supporting the administrative functioning of the Study Abroad Office at the Center for International Programs (CIP). The Study Abroad Office sends SUNY students to universities overseas. The benefits of working at an international education office (beyond financial compensation) are many--the ability to share personal international experiences with peers, maintain a continued connection to an international community, and gain experience in the field of international education. Responsibilities: Among other assigned tasks and responsibilities that will arise throughout the semester, the Graduate Assistant will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Database management and data entry
- Application processing
- General office support: filing documents, sending letters/packages, delivering materials on campus, set-up and clean-up of office events
- Attend office events (study abroad fair, orientation, information sessions, etc)
- Communications management (interoffice, interdepartmental, and electronic communication)
Eligibility Criteria: Interested students must be pursuing a graduate degree at SUNY New Paltz and:
- Be enrolled in at least 6 credits each semester
- Have a 3.0 GPA (if you are a first-semester graduate student, this requirement is waived and will be reevaluated after your first semester)
- Be able to commit to 20 hours of work per week
- Have demonstrated experience with different forms of technology
Preferred Qualifications: Applicant has had some form of international experience, this can mean:
- the student has studied abroad in the past
- the student is an international student studying in the US
- the student has traveled extensively

Supplemental Instruction is a peer-led tutoring program facilitated by a team of student staff. This position is 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the CSS professional staff, the Graduate Assistant will
- Assist CSS professional staff with supervision of undergraduate student staff
- Assist with facilitating semester training, monthly meetings, and intermittent trainings
- Facilitate workshops and table at events as needed
- Assist with collecting and reviewing CSS data
- Complete and publish a weekly schedule for CSS student staff
- Participate in data collection and outreach efforts in the Starfish platform
- Observe tutoring/writing/consultation sessions and provide feedback to student staff

Description: Teachers of Record (TRs) provide a valuable opportunity to teach an entry-level studio course as an instructor of record. TRs are solely responsible for all course content including syllabus, assignments, grades, and assessment. Candidates should have a strong command of the technical and conceptual aspects of their discipline and possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Description: Two-semester position to start in the Fall. 20 hours per week. The Art Education Graduate Assistant works 20 hours per week in the Art Education program during the academic year assisting and supporting Art Education faculty and staff. Approximately seven hours per week occur on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. during mid Fall and mid Spring semesters.

Description:
Two-semester position to start in the Fall. 20 hours per week.
Specific hours will be determined upon hiring to fit the assistant’s schedule.
Working with the Graduate Coordinator for the Art Department, the Recruitment and Promotions Assistant helps to increase the visibility of the Art Department. Through collaboration with Design and Print services, the Office of Graduate and Extended Learning, and the School of Fine and Performing Arts, the Recruitment and Promotions Assistant will help produce, update, and circulate promotional material including brochures, posters, websites, and social media sites. Additionally, the Recruitment and Promotions Assistant will arrange on-campus meetings and tours with interested students and assist in tracking graduate alumni and producing alumni events. Other responsibilities will include the development of a database of internships and residencies, assistance with developing pedagogical and professional materials for graduate students, and event planning related to the MFA program.

Status: Hiring for the 24-25 academic year
Description: Two-semester position to start in the Fall. 20 hours per week. This position is only available to students enrolled in the Photography and related Media MFA program. The Photography GA works closely with the head of the Photography Program and the photography tech on various projects and tasks to help maintain and upgrade Photography Program facilities, tools, and processes. The Photography GA position provides a valuable learning experience in photographic tools and technologies, preparing students for a wide range of technical careers.
Tasks coordinated with the photo technician will include overseeing the photography equipment, training and supervising student workers, upgrading workflows and systems, and optimizing spaces. The GA assists in the regular upkeep and maintenance of the Old Library photography production spaces as well as the Photo MFA spaces in the Smiley Art Building. In conversation with the photography faculty, the GA will assist in maintaining the program website and developing digital and analog program archives. The GA will coordinate with the Photography faculty and Graduate Coordinator to promote the program through social media outreach and advertising.

Status: Hiring for the 24-25 academic year
Responsibilities: Two-semester position to start in the Spring. 20 hours per week.
- Primary duties include the coordination of visiting artists in collaboration with the Student Art Alliance.
- Candidates should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, fluency with MS Office including word processing and database management, and basic familiarity with digital photo editing.
- This two-semester appointment begins in the Spring; close mentorship and training with the existing VISITING ARTIST/ART EDUCATION assistant is expected during the Fall.
Visiting Artist Lecture Coordinator Duties:
- Coordination of six to eight visiting artists/presenters per semester.
- Organization of visiting artists, confirmation of travel, hotel stay, dinner reservations, and lunches for the artists during their stay.
- Management of artist contracts and paperwork for stipends, tax forms, and purchase orders for hotel, media, and printing services.
- Responsible for the management of the budget as it relates to all aspects of the artist's travel, food, and accommodations. The budget must be presented and approved each semester at Student Art Alliance Board Meetings.
- Coordination of artist lecture presentation setup, video recordings of lectures, and reservation of room with Media Services and Student Activities.
- Communication with faculty and students throughout the semester with visiting artist details. Responsible for organizing a yearly slide slam for students to vote on artists for lecture series
- Introduce artist at public lectures and oversee their schedule during their visit. Must be on-site for troubleshooting and assisting with the artist around campus the day of the lecture.
- Responsible for transporting and/or arranging travel for artists during their visit
- Coordination of promotional material with the graphic design department for poster advertisements and the distribution of material.

Responsibilities: Two-semester position to start in the Fall. 20 hours per week
- Primary duties include assistance to the Preparator with gallery preparation, exhibition installation, lighting, art handling, matting/framing, wall label, and signage/banner production, and assisting with the organization of student thesis exhibitions, including correspondence between museum and student participants.
- Secondary duties include reorganizing storage areas; organizing and maintaining a/v, lighting, and other equipment, inventorying supplies; updating exhibition and curatorial files; and special projects as determined in consultation with museum staff.
- Must be courteous, careful, and detail-oriented; must be willing to climb ladders and lift at least 40 lbs., must have knowledge of hand tools; facility with computer graphics software and printers a plus.

HVAMC Technical Support
- Assist the HVAMC Staff with overseeing 3D Printing operations
- Manage individual and group 3D Printing training sessions for undergraduate students •
- Manage projects as assigned by HVAMC Staff
- Research and propose ideas for improving/updating printing operations
- Maintain equipment within the post-processing area and Machine Shop as directed
- Working with your supervisor, identify and develop either a term or year-long project that will define your experience as a Graduate Assistant

This is a 10hr/week position for the UG phonetics course. The TA is responsible for grading online homework assignments, and assisting with weekly lab/practice sessions (W 9:55-10:45 am in the fall; W 12:55-1:45 for the spring semester). The TA will set up recordings for each lab session and assist students with the completion of weekly activities. He or she will also hold weekly office hours and assist with other student support activities as needed. The TA must be available for Wednesday lab sessions. This TA will work 10 hours/week to support the Survey of Communication Disorders course in both the fall and spring semesters. Job responsibilities will include:

Other responsibilities include holding weekly office hours and assisting with proctoring and grading the midterm and final exams for the fall offering of CMD310. The supervisor for this course will be Dr. Telesca. The spring offering of this course is fully online and will not require any on-campus activities. This section will be supervised by Professor Goettsche.
CMD419 Research in Communication Disorders (fall and spring) (.5 TA)

This TA will work 20 hours/week for the GE course World of Sound in the fall and Speech and Hearing Science in the spring. This involves laboratory instruction and direct instructional support for six hours per week in the fall and 6 hours per week in the spring in addition to other responsibilities. The TA will be the sole instructor for weekly lab/recitation sessions. Responsibilities include setting up practical and/or computer-based labs, conducting organized review sessions, and ensuring that all sessions run smoothly. Other responsibilities include holding weekly office hours, logging homework grades, and assisting with proctoring and grading exams. The TA must be available during the day on Wednesdays for the lab sessions. The position requires a strong academic background in the sciences and the ability to work independently with students both individually and in the classroom.

Description: TAs in Communication Studies assist instructors in a range of lower-division undergraduate courses for about fifteen hours per week. TAs may be assigned to work alongside the teachers of record (TR) either in several sections of a single course or in several courses with similar, significant research assignments. - Assist in the development of instructional materials

Description: The IMPACT STEM Transfer (Inclusive and Meaningful Partnerships for Cultivating Transformation in STEM Transfer) program is a group of 15 teams from across the US that consist of 2- and 4- schools committed to enhancing the experience of students transferring into and completing STEM degrees. SUNY New Paltz is working with Dutchess Community College and other regional partners. We seek a graduate student assistant to help with the administration of this program.
