Graduate, Professional & Interdisciplinary Studies

Responsibilities

The Graduate Council has been a fixture in faculty governance at SUNY New Paltz for fifty years. The current Council has a well-deserved reputation for working quickly and thoughtfully in response to a myriad of campus concerns pertaining to the Graduate School.

The Council considers matters of academic policy including course proposals, program changes, student progress, and academic appeals and makes recommendations to the Dean about academic policies pertaining to graduate education at New Paltz. Meetings of the Council are held every two weeks during the academic year. The Presiding Officer of the Graduate Faculty accepts nominations for membership on the Council at the spring meeting of the Graduate Faculty and supervises the election for membership each fall. The Office of Graduate, Professional & Interdisciplinary Studies distributes Minutes of Council meetings to all academic departments and deans.
