Productions: A Message from the Students
Greetings Students,
My name is Christopher Etienne I am currently a third-year student in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Theatre Studies here at SUNY New Paltz! When I was asked to put together this year’s welcome message for the department’s webpage, I was beyond grateful and excited to give a little reflection on what I’ve taken away from my time here.
When it comes to our theatre department, I’ve learned what a strong and impactful group our student body is. I’m amazed every single day at how transformative it is and how it shaped my skills and perspective in the world of theatre.
In the last three years, I’ve been able to take on a handful of roles in our productions as I delved into the nuances of stagecraft, from understanding character depth to mastering technical elements and what it means to be part of a community. I would also love to highlight the pivotal role of the amazing faculty in shaping the experience here. Their dedication and expertise are truly inspiring; they mentor us through the many productions that reflect on today’s times and allow us to share the creative space with everyone.
The faculty’s passion for theater is contagious, and their ability to provide constructive feedback while encouraging us to push our boundaries makes a profound impact. Their support and commitment are the true source of helping us grow both as artists and individuals, making my time in the department a learning experience and a transformative journey. I hope incoming students who are joining our program, whether as a theatre major or minor or even studying a completely different degree, are excited to join this hive of creative artists.
Sincerely,
Christopher Etienne
