The Bachelor of Science in Music degree program inspires students to develop their love of music, obtain the necessary skills to achieve their musical and professional goals, and contribute to their communities and beyond. We offer students the opportunity to develop their musical skills beyond general knowledge to a specific course of study for their instrument or area of interest.
Students accepted into the Department of Music are enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Music degree program. This degree allows students to choose a concentration in one area of study (e.g., classical performance, jazz performance, composition, recording and electronic music, clinical musicianship, and general music) or pursue a double concentration. The BS in Music requires 60 Liberal Arts credits and an academic minor, which provides the opportunity to take courses outside of music and a well-rounded undergraduate education.
The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree program expands the breadth of their curriculum by giving students a total of 90 liberal arts credits. Students enrolled in the BA in Music take the same core courses as students enrolled in the BS in Music. This music degree is frequently used by those with a double major (e.g., education and music). The objective of this curriculum is to provide broad-based liberal arts education with a fundamental understanding of musical practice.
