Foundation Year
The Foundation Year is the shared first-year experience for students in the Department of Art. Through investigations of image, surface, object, space, and contemporary issues, you'll explore how artists observe, question, communicate, and create meaning.
Studio projects combine making, discussion, research, and critical inquiry. Students develop technical skills while learning to shape ideas through process, reflection, and informed decision-making. The Foundation curriculum values persistence, curiosity, and creative engagement as students work toward thoughtful and well-crafted outcomes.
Beyond individual courses, students become part of a collaborative creative community while developing a foundation for further study in all areas of the Department of Art.
