The breadth of courses offered by the Art History department, ranging from prehistoric times to the present and covering nearly all areas of the world, is rarely found at four-year colleges. The Art History department is dedicated to the teaching of the undergraduate student. Small class sizes, usually comprised of fifteen to thirty-five students, allow for individual attention and close interaction with faculty and other students.
Undergraduate and graduate-level classes are conducted through slide lectures and seminars that explore visual forms and the cultures that produced them. In addition, field trips to major museums and historic sites in New York City and the region provide on-site instruction and first-hand experience of works of art and architecture.
