On-Campus Housing
There are 14 residence halls that provide campus housing. Generally, two students and sometimes three students share a room. Each dormitory has a full-time Resident Director and several Resident Assistants. Resident Assistants are students who live and work in the halls to help students make the most of living on campus.
International students are placed by default into one of our 10-month halls. 10-month halls are open during the academic year (winter recess and spring break). This makes it convenient for international students who need to stay in the residence halls during the breaks. The 10-month halls are Bouton, Ashokan, Awosting, Mohonk, and Gage Hall.

Each hall is equipped with various common areas that have TV and study lounges, computers, laundry facilities, vending machines, one kitchenette, a microwave, and a public pay phone.
It is important to make an early reservation for campus housing. All students living in the residence halls must purchase a meal plan to eat in the many campus-dining facilities; the student rooms do not have kitchens for preparing meals.
In addition, SUNY New Paltz offers various theme housing programs including international student focused Living and Learning Communities.

Off-Campus Housing
New students are encouraged to live on campus and purchase a meal plan for their first academic year. Off-campus housing is difficult to find and can be expensive. The university does not provide assistance with finding off-campus housing.
Per SUNY New Paltz policy, all students in our program are expected to live on-campus for the first year.
The only exceptions are if:
- You are a transfer student
- You will be 21 years old or older before the first day of classes
- You are residing with parents or close relatives within 25 miles of the university
