Peer Advisors help fellow students navigate various academic tools such as Progress Report, My Schedule Planner, and Starfish as well as answer questions regarding academic policies and deadlines, among a variety of advising topics. Peer advisors are located at the Office of Academic Advising (OAA) in Wooster Hall. |

Hi! My name is Jessica Sweet. I'm a Math 4+1 Education Major with minors in Astronomy and Deaf Studies. I'm a Junior and working at the OAA as a Peer Advisor. I became a peer advisor because it's a great opportunity to positively influence other students and share things that I wish I knew coming to Suny New Paltz. I enjoy working at the OAA because everyone is super supportive, and we all work together to help students. In my free time, I like to read, watch movies, and going hiking in New Paltz, since they have so many trails you will never get bored of the views. I'm also involved in Outing Club, ASL Club, and W.I.S.E. While the campus is a great place to hang out and spend free time, I would definitely recommend going on the River-to-Ridge Trail and going to The Bakery to get croissants and other sweet treats in town.

Hi! My name is Katarina Xie. I am a junior majoring in Communication Disorders, with minors in Deaf studies and Linguistics. I am learning both American Sign Language and Mandarin this semester! In both of my language classes, we are learning about seasons. Summer is my favorite season because I enjoy swimming, working out, listening to music, and walking outdoors. Lately, I have been listening to more audiobooks! Some books that I highly recommend are The Bodyguard and Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center. Both are filled with unexpected twists while being extremely heartwarming and hilarious! Currently, I have recently finished the fifth season of New Amsterdam. As a peer advisor at the Office of Academic Advising (OAA), I have gained more insights into New Paltz’s academic policies. Learning about the plethora of resources available for students allows me to best inform them about their potential options. I feel a lot of satisfaction from seeing and helping students leave the OAA calmer and more relaxed. Other than taking strolls around our beautiful campus at New Paltz, I love the tight-knit community at New Paltz! I have made many close connections with my peers and professors. Throughout my past five semesters, I grew more comfortable in expressing and voicing my thoughts.

Hi! My name is Jenna Ahern and I am a sophomore in the Honors program majoring in Psychology! I am working at the OAA as a Peer Advisor this year and am extremely passionate about helping others. I love to read, dance and paint in my free time. I love music and am constantly making Spotify playlists, most of which feature artists like Adrianne Lenker and Chappell Roan! I absolutely love it here at New Paltz and am involved in many extracurriculars like Dance Association! I love going into town and a goal of mine is to try all the restaurants before I graduate. New Paltz has introduced to me to such wonderful people and new hobbies, which continue inspire me to be the best version of myself.

Hi! My name is Emily McLaughlin. I am a senior majoring in Psychology and minoring in Social Justice Educational Studies and Disaster Studies. I became a peer advisor because I am extremely passionate about education, and I love getting to play a role in helping students with academic planning. In the future, I plan to become a School Counselor so I can continue to help students. In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends, going for walks, and listening to music. My current favorite artists are Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Charli XCX. I love hiking and exploring the New Paltz area. One of my favorite places to walk in New Paltz is the Rail Trail. I also absolutely love Rino's, it is the best pizza in New Paltz by far!
