The Academic Success Program is a voluntary academic recovery program designed to provide individualized support to students placed on academic warning or academic probation. It is critical for students to take proactive steps towards their own success. This is an opportunity for students to make the most of support systems available to them at New Paltz while setting and achieving individualized goals for academic success.
Students on academic warning or academic probation are assigned an advisor in the Office of Academic Advising (except EOP students and students enrolled in the School of Business, each of whom are supported directly through EOP or the Center for Business Advising) to provide academic counseling and to connect students with campus resources to support their academic success. Students who elect to participate in the Academic Success Program will work with their assigned advisors to develop an individualized academic plan, accessible to the student via Starfish.
Common Elements of Success Plans Include:
- Academic Counseling with Academic Advisor during the first-week of classes to set goals, review options, and make a plan for the semester.
- Meeting with a Peer Coach during the first couple weeks of classes
- Subject Tutoring
- Writers’ Studio
- Online Tutoring
- Post-Midterms meeting with Academic Advisor to review performance and make informed decisions at this critical time in the semester
Students may also be referred to appropriate academic support services on campus, including the Center for Student Success, the Career Resource Center, the Psychological Counseling Center, and the Disability Resource Center.
