The basic requirement for admission is a high school degree and a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale (or an 85% grade average or higher).

*Full admission requires the submission of official transcripts and test scores. If you are admitted to the undergraduate program, you must request official copies of your transcripts and test scores be sent by courier to:  

An official transcript (documentation of a student's permanent academic record including the courses that have been completed and the marks that have been received for those courses).  If your school or national education department does not provide transcripts, please provide a certified record of the courses and examinations taken, this would include Government Examination certificates (such as GCSE-"O" Level, IGCSE, and “A" Level). You must submit official secondary/high school transcripts - in the original language and in a translated English version. 

** The essay that is a required part of the SUNY Supplemental Application or the Common Application is acceptable. You may also use the SUNY International Applicant Essay form - form for your essay. You may choose any topic for your autobiographical essay. 

*** A letter of recommendation from an academic teacher or school counselor.

If you were admitted and attended a college/university (inside or outside of the US) you are considered a transfer student.

Conditional Admission 

The Haggerty English Language Pathway Program 

Students applying to undergraduate programs* at SUNY New Paltz may be admitted without proof of English proficiency if they meet all other admissions standards. Upon arrival, these students will be tested and placed into academic or ESL courses as needed. These students will be: 

• issued an Undergraduate Pathway I-20 from SUNY New Paltz. The I-20 will indicate that the student is not yet proficient in English and that she or he will be tested for proficiency upon arrival. 
• eligible to enroll in an academic course if they are placed in our advanced levels and meet the required criteria. 
• eligible to undertake a full-time program of degree study upon completion of the Haggerty English Language Program (HELP) or upon achieving the required proficiency based on TOEFL or IELTS test scores. 
• invited to the Summer 5-week HELP program. This optional program is a way to get a head start on developing language proficiency.

SUNY New Paltz will select two first-year undergraduate international students to receive an annual, renewable scholarship to cover 50% of their tuition beginning in the Fall semester.

Submit your Bank Statement:

As an international student, you are required to submit financial documents to receive your I-20. You will need this document prior to scheduling your F-1 student visa interview at your local consulate.

Log into your applicant portal to upload your financial documents (information below).

Please only upload the documents to your application portal. You do not need to email these separately.

Bank Statement Requirements:

• Bank Statement and/or Bank letter on official bank letterhead must be issued within the last 6 months. The bank statement must show available funds for 1 year of study. Once you are accepted, you will receive an email from international@newpaltz.edu with the amount you must document for your I-20.
• Funding can be from personal savings, family, or a sponsor. You may have multiple sources of funding.
• If the funds are not in your name, please read and complete the International Student Financial Statement and upload it with supporting documentation. If you have multiple sponsors, please have each fill out a separate copy of this form.
• Make sure to keep a set of original financial documents for when you apply for your F-1 visa.

• Submit your enrollment deposit of $100, which is applied towards your first term's tuition.
• You will meet with your academic advisors during the International Student Orientation for your course registration.
