Posthumous Degree Awards
In the unfortunate circumstance that a student dies without completing all degree requirements at SUNY New Paltz, family members or program faculty may seek to award an honorary posthumous degree. These requests should be submitted to the Office of the Provost for review and final approval by the President. Following the awarding of posthumous degrees, transcripts will include the notation “Posthumous honorary degree awarded” and the date.
The following standards must be met for consideration of an honorary posthumous degree:

- Good standing at SUNY New Paltz
- Recommendation of the department in which the major program is housed
- Graduate Degrees
- 75% of program completed
